A completed and victorious work

- all we need to do is to appropriate it.

Mark 16 Verses 1-8

Both Marys were committed to the Lord, even after His death. The day after His crucifixion they wanted to honour Him by anointing His body i.e. I presume to prepare it properly for burial. While on their way, their focus was such that they didn't seem to fear the very possible negative reaction of the religious leaders; rather their greatest concern was for "Who [would] roll away the stone" from the entrance of the tomb for them.

As followers of Christ, what do we see as hindrances to our ministry to Him? Or even broader, as obstacles and problems in our lives?

As we are well aware, their concerns were totally unfounded as God had already arranged for, and removed the stone. Not only did they not have to worry about access to the tomb but their very labour was no longer required as Christ had risen (Praise His name).

This reminds me of a two verses:

  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)
  • You are of God, little children, and you have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (1John 4:4)

While the application in these two verses is slightly different in that they speak of us doing something, they reinforce the truth that our victory is already complete as God carries us through by His power.

But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  (1Corinthians 15:57)

While the song says, "God will make a way" the truth is that He already has. All I need to do is to step out of my boat and follow Him.

In closing, while life will definitely have its challenges and pressures, a child of God need not fret or fear but should rather experience His peace that passes all understanding (Phil 4:7).

  • Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (Psa 37:7)
  • The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. (Zep 3:17)
  • Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Mat 11:29-30)

Oh Lord my God, my I daily rest in you and experience your peace in my life?

There's a peace I've come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There's an anchor for my soul
I can say "It is well"
Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise
There's a day that's drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes
Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead
And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise
I will rise
And I hear the voice of many angels sing,
"Worthy…
